We are educated and experienced and ready to assist children in Kindergarten-8th grade. Decoding, fluency, and comprehension are the focuses and each is handled specifically according to age/development and grade level expectations. As a reading specialist, Mya Anzures is prepared to work with students with dyslexia.
Writing needs can also be addressed. Both educators have experience teaching writing in elementary-middle school. Writing struggles will be addressed based on the specific needs of the individual child. We are prepared to work on format, word choice, revision, and more.

Conquer Those Reading Challenges 2013
School is about to resume. The challenges of reading are upon us. These may sound like familiar questions...What is the main idea of that non-fiction piece my social studies teacher assigned? What does it mean to infer...? How do I write a summary of the "important events" in this story? It can seem a little overwhelming at times; especially if your child is struggling to decode or if your child's fluency (reading rate per minute) is drastically slow. Not to worry! We are experts in reading instruction both by degrees and experience. We are here to encourage, assist, and educate your struggling reader! We have sessions taking place in Spring Branch and New Braunfels. Contact us today if you are eager to help your child become a master reader.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas!
Tis' the season to read wonderful children's picture books about Christmas! There are so many to choose from that it can be difficult to choose. Vivid illustrations are a must! A Christmas story that has rhythm and rhyme is always memorable and entertaining.
The best way to pick a good children's book, however, is to let your child pick it out! An outing to your local Barnes and Noble will prove to be a big hit for everyone! Do you smell that Starbucks peppermint mocha being whipped up just for you? Mmmmmm.

With so many creative ways to read these days it's hard to keep track of what's out there. In fact, sometimes it's extremely difficult to figure out exactly what to buy. Book APPs are available by the thousands!
How do you know which one to choose? Every great book APP should inspire reading! Here is a check list of must haves for every great book APP:
- must be an INTERESTING story
- must have the choice of read-to-me or read-to-self
- must include illustrations with text to entertain...too much text can be BORING
- must contain interactive elements that aren't just for fun but also assist in reading mastery
- must be a book that is at your child's reading level (or darn close)
Happy APP hunting!
The Apple Store offers free APPS daily. Shop their store for loads of great reading APPS! (No, we don't get anything for saying that.)

Is your child prepared to pass STAAR?
It's almost the 4th week of school. The first assessment testing is just around the corner. No one is excited about those assessment tests...but they must be done. And all must do well. This year marks the "you have to pass to pass" rule for elementary school. If a 5th grader doesn't pass STAAR, then the 5th grader may not be promoted to the 6th grade.

State Law Requirements
The Student Succes
s Initiative (SSI) was created by the Texas Legislature to ensure that all students receive the instruction and support they need to be academically successful in reading and mathematics.
Under the SSI grade advancement requirements, students are required to pass STAAR grade 5 reading and mathematics tests to be promoted to sixth grade. Additionally, students are required to pass the STAAR grade 8 reading and mathematics tests to be promoted to ninth grade.
It's a tough job being a student.
